In your daily work, you use and manage a great deal of data in Microsoft Dynamics NAV 4PS Construct. You need all that information to ensure that your organisation’s processes run smoothly. What's more, that data is also very useful for other purposes, especially as management information. Because that data reflects the process and contains a wealth of information about your organisation!
What can you manage?
This information is the Business Information, or BI. The analyses that can be produced using this information support your decision making process. BI combines the information entered at different parts of the process by different people or parties and establishes relationships among seemingly “loose data”.
About which issues are decisions made? This can be done at various levels, e.g. (1) operational level, (2) tactical level, and (3) strategic level. BI at operational and tactical levels offers information that supports the “small loop”. This information is primarily used to control processes. Based on the organisation’s strategic objectives, minor adjustments can be made here and there in the process. Power BI can make the required BI available for this purpose.
Adjustments at the strategic level are done by reporting according to the “large loop”. This is also known as traditional reporting. This information primarily influences the KPIs at the strategic level and throughout the organisation. Power BI is a good addition to these reports and immediately provides a good view of the current status and the status relating to KPIs, and facilitates predictions regarding future results.
Innovation project Power BI
Because 4PS has in-depth knowledge of the NAV product as well as your market and the associated processes, we can answer many of your questions through the standard reports that we will deliver. The innovation project that 4PS has launched therefore aims to create a set of standard reports for our customers that can be used through Power BI. After connecting to your own database, you can use these pre-set reports from 4PS in Power BI.
These reports can be used to answer questions, incorporate KPIs and make any adjustments in your organisation. If the standard functionality doesn’t meet your needs, the report can easily be adjusted.
Power BI is a great tool for your organisation – not only to gain more control over your processes, but also over projects and service projects, and your operating results. However, this is not the only tool that you can use to meet your information needs. The goal of your information needs determines the reporting medium. When implementing Power BI in your company, we therefore not only look at Power BI, we also analyse all your information needs to ensure the right information medium for each issue. Within your company, we therefore explore reporting options like RDLC, standard filters in Dynamics NAV, Excel and Power BI.
A strong foundation guarantees the future
That is always the general principle of 4PS. Creating a (standard) report with Power BI doesn’t just mean producing nice reports and graphs. The preparation naturally involves more than that. It starts by identifying the information requirements and translating these into the proper fields in NAV. The correct queries for extracting the necessary information from NAV can then be created. A link is then made between NAV and Power BI using web services, so that the desired data can be smoothly transferred to Power BI. This link has been made and many required queries established. The next step is to construct the correct data models in Power BI and to create the required calculations. Only then can the production of reports begin. These two steps are currently under way.
